About the Alfresco Fly Trap
The Alfresco Fly Trap is a revolutionary new fly trap, designed in Australia, to catch flies without excessive smell or mess. Using our highly attractive EnviroSafe Eco bait, flies are attracted to the trap and enter via top entry holes. Once inside the trap, the flies are kept separate to the bait eliminating any smell of rotting flies. The trap has an aesthetically pleasing shape and the frosted finish hides the caught flies. These features are designed to allow the trap to be used in alfresco dining situations both at home and at commercial outdoor dining venues.
The Alfresco Fly Trap is particularly useful for trapping flies closer to the house. Because of the low-odour design, the trap can be placed in BBQ areas, verandahs, balconies and decks, around swimming pools – anywhere that flies are a nuisance!
The Alfresco Fly trap uses the Jumbo size EnviroSafe Eco Bait. The generous bait chamber holds 500ml of bait.
The main difference between the Alfresco Fly Trap and our original Standard and Jumbo traps is that the caught flies are kept separate to the bait. This means they dry out after being caught and do not smell. The trap fits in with outdoor dining décor and can be used closer to the house, for example in courtyards, on balconies and in the barbecue area.
The trap is very sturdy and designed to be reused many times. It is made from 100% recyclable materials: the base of the trap is made from blow-moulded PET material and the top of the trap is made from injection-moulded polypropylene.
Yes, the trap uses the same EnviroSafe Eco Bait, which is completely non-toxic and made from food-grade ingredients.
The trap is easy to set up.
• Simply snip off the tag and unscrew the base from the top.You will find a Jumbo bait sachet inside the trap.
• Remove the cap from the base and pour the bait powder from the sachet into the base
• Add 2 cups (500ml) of warm water to the bait in the base of the trap
• Replace the cap on the base and reassemble the trap by screwing the top back onto the base.
The bait activates more quickly in warm conditions, so place the trap in a warm sunny position. This trap can be positioned on the ground if children and pets don’t play with it. Otherwise, a hanging point can be pulled from the top of the trap to allow the trap to be suspended from a standard pergola hook.
The bait will attract flies for 3-4 weeks. When the trap stops attracting flies, simply empty, wash and re-bait with a new Jumbo EnviroSafe Eco-bait.
• To empty the trap, take it to where you want to dispose of the dead dry flies, for example over a compost bin, garden bed or outdoor bin.
• Hold the trap on a 45° angle and unscrew the base from the top of the trap. As you lift the top from the base, the dry dead flies will tumble into the disposal area (compost, garden or bin).
• Pour the old bait down the drain or onto the garden or compost pile (it is completely chemical free and will break down naturally), then wash all parts of the trap in hot soapy water.
• Rinse well and re-set using a new EnviroSafe Jumbo Eco bait.
Start trapping as soon as ambient daily temperatures reach about 20o C. This is when flies become active and begin reproducing and will be strongly attracted to the bait.
